NCDMB Opens 10th National Essay Competition, Targets Young Nigerians to Drive Local Manufacturing Growth
Thousands of young Nigerians aspiring to shape the nation’s energy future now have a fresh opportunity as the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) prepares to launch the 10th edition of its Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition.
The Board announced that entries will officially open on August 15, inviting undergraduate students in 100 and 200 levels from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country to participate.
This year’s theme, “Promoting Manufacturing for Sustainable Local Content Development,” calls on students to explore strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s manufacturing base as a pathway to economic growth and reduced reliance on imports within the energy sector.
Beyond the allure of prizes, the competition has evolved into a significant intellectual platform, fostering critical thinking, research, and innovation among Nigerian youths. It challenges participants to go beyond theoretical learning and develop practical, solution-driven ideas that can support Nigeria’s industrialisation and long-term sustainability goals.
In a statement signed by Managing Director and Project Consultant, Eyinimi Omorozi, the initiative is designed to sharpen students’ research capabilities while equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the country’s energy industry.
Interested participants are expected to submit their essays via the official portal at www.ncdmbessay.ng once the application window opens.
The competition will conclude with an award ceremony scheduled for October 22 at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where outstanding entries will be honoured for their originality and impact.
Over the years, the NCDMB Undergraduate Essay Competition has grown into one of Nigeria’s foremost academic initiatives, inspiring young scholars to engage deeply with national development challenges while proposing innovative solutions to strengthen local content and economic resilience.
