Nigerians React As Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo Launches Matchmaking Platform With N700,000 Membership Fee

Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, the lead pastor of David’s Christian Centre and a popular relationship coach, has come under criticism following the launch of a Christian matchmaking platform whose highest membership plan costs N700,000 per year.
Okonkwo introduced the platform, known as Mentor To Marry, in a post on X on August 25, 2025.
According to the pastor, Mentor To Marry was created as a faith-based community for Christian singles who are serious about finding intentional and God-centred marriages. He also pointed to the financial challenges affecting many modern relationships as part of the motivation behind the initiative.
The platform differs from conventional dating apps by placing mentorship and personal development before matchmaking. Prospective members are required to undergo eight weeks of mentoring sessions, complete personal assessments and participate in guided reflection before gaining access to matching services.
Mentor To Marry currently offers three annual membership plans: Regular, which costs N70,000; Premium, priced at N350,000; and VIP, which goes for N700,000.
Those who opt for the VIP package are offered additional benefits, including a dedicated matchmaker and personal coach, priority access to the platform’s founders, as well as introductions outside the platform.
The service is run by Love, Dating and Marriage Ministries, a Nigerian non-profit organisation. It is targeted at Christians aged 25 and above who are single, divorced or widowed.
The platform makes it clear that membership does not guarantee that users will find a partner or get married. It also has rules prohibiting harassment, fraudulent activities, catfishing and sexually explicit content.
For individuals who may not be ready to pay for membership, the platform also provides a free community option where Christian singles can participate without committing financially.
However, despite the emphasis on mentorship, faith and intentional relationships, the launch has generated significant reactions online.
Several Nigerians have questioned the cost of the paid plans, particularly the N700,000 VIP package, with some describing the fees as excessive and exploitative.
The controversy has consequently shifted attention from the platform’s stated goal of helping Christian singles prepare for marriage to the affordability of its membership options.
