Oloyede Bows Out As JAMB Registrar, Paving The Way For Successor, Prof. Aina, To Consolidate Reforms

ABUJA – Immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has bowed out of office, but advised his successor, Prof. Segun Aina to consolidate on reforms introduced under his watch.

Oloyede who handed over the reins of leadership of the Board to Aina on Friday, praised himself for birthing a number of reforms that has strengthened the image and public perception of JAMB within the last ten years.

He outlined some of the areas of reforms he introduced to include strengthening the Computer-Based Test system, enforcing adherence to the Central Admissions Processing System, CAPS, expanded biometric verification, deployed digital payment platforms, improved CCTV surveillance, introduced remote examination management technologies and deepened digital transformation across its operations.

He insisted that JAMB leveraged technology to strengthen its integrity, improved efficiency and made manipulation increasingly difficult.

While handing over the baton of leadership at the board’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, Oloyede said he was confident that his successor with his wealth of experience in ICT will make a meaningful impact too.

He urged Nigerians to rally behind his successor, stressing that the future of the Board depends on continuity rather than personalities.

While reeling out some of his achievements, he noted that JAMB committed over N8 billion to boost workers’ retirement savings, including introducing a “13th-month salary,” as well as increased examination duty allowances from 10 to 20 per cent.

On controversies regarding a staff member that claimed a snake swallowed N36 million, the former Registrar said it was one of several disciplinary measures by the Board to deter corruption and strengthen accountability.

“We promoted staff welfare but never compromised on discipline. You either endure the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret,” he stated.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment of Prof. Aina as JAMB Registrar on May 21, 2026. At 39, Aina goes down history as the youngest chief executive officer to be appointed to head the agency that conducts entry level examination into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina holds degrees from the University of Kent and Loughborough University.

He officially took over the leadership of JAMB on Friday, where he pledged to protect the integrity of the organisation.

He warned organisations and individuals who aid and abet examination malpractices that it would no longer be business as usual.
