The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, said he was confident of winning the Osun State governorship election after voting on Saturday at Ward 9, Polling Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.
He based his position partly on the number of voters who turned out at his polling location and said the presence of voters, Independent National Electoral Commission officials and security personnel showed that the exercise was taking place normally.
The turnout in Ikire formed the main part of Oyebamiji’s comments after he voted. His remarks also touched on security and the reported arrest of a politician, making voter participation and the conduct of security personnel important parts of his assessment of the election.
Voter turnout shapes Oyebamiji’s confidence
Oyebamiji praised voters in Ikire for coming out to cast their ballots. He said their presence showed that residents were willing to take part in the election and were not intimidated by reports of possible trouble.
“INEC officials are here, the voters are here, security operatives are here,” he said.
He said the large number of voters at the polling area was a positive sign for the conduct of the election. He also said the situation he saw in Ikire was generally orderly.

The APC candidate’s assessment came against the background of concerns about possible violence in Ikire. He asked the police and other security agencies to maintain proper protection for voters throughout the exercise.
Oyebamiji said security personnel had a responsibility to protect people at polling locations and help create conditions for a peaceful election. He also expressed confidence that the poll would be credible.
“I want to admonish the police and other security operatives to be proactive to ensure security for our people and all the voters, and I believe the election would be credible,” he said.
His comments placed security alongside voter participation as part of his assessment after voting. The presence of security personnel at the polling unit was also part of the situation he cited when discussing the conduct of the election.
Oyebamiji also spoke about the reported arrest of a politician. He did not give details of the arrest but said he expected the police to perform their duties professionally.
“I want to be sure that the police would do their job,” he said.
He then restated his confidence in his electoral prospects, saying he believed he would emerge victorious after the votes were counted.
“I am confident that I’d win this election at the end of the day,” he said.
Oyebamiji’s comments came after he had personally cast his ballot in Ikire, giving him an opportunity to assess the voting process from his polling location. His observations centred on the turnout he witnessed, the presence of electoral personnel and security agencies, and the need for proper protection of voters.
The APC candidate therefore presented voter participation in Ikire as a positive sign for the election, alongside his expectation that security personnel would perform their duties professionally. He maintained his confidence in victory as voting continued in Osun State.
