The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) began its 2027 presidential and National Assembly campaign in Ogun Central on Wednesday with thousands of residents and supporters turning out in three federal constituencies to receive its candidates and leaders.
The campaign opened in Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency at Agbado Station before moving to Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South, where large crowds gathered at different points to welcome the party team.
The exercise ended with the Ogun Central flag-off rally at Ake Pavilion, Ake, bringing together the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, his running mate, Alhaja Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, senatorial candidate Iyabo Obasanjo and House of Representatives candidates.
The scale of the turnout gave the PDP an early public test in the senatorial district as it began its campaign for the 2027 elections.

In Ifo/Ewekoro, residents waved from streets and balconies of adjoining buildings as Adebutu, Sowunmi-Kolapo, Obasanjo and other party leaders arrived at Agbado Station.
The campaign later reached Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, where Dele Olaleye is the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives.
A large crowd had gathered at NTA Junction, Totoro, from as early as 10am to receive the campaign team. Residents and party supporters chanted solidarity songs as the candidates arrived.
The senatorial and governorship candidates used the gathering to assure voters of purposeful representation at the senatorial and federal constituency levels.
Abeokuta South also recorded a large turnout for the party. Supporters received the campaign team and followed the convoy to Ake Pavilion, where the Ogun Central rally was held.
Toyin Amuzu is the PDP House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
The three constituencies are part of Ogun Central Senatorial District, where the party is seeking votes for its candidates in the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
At the rally, Adebutu asked voters to support Obasanjo for the Senate, describing her as a tested and trusted candidate. He said her record in representing the district had not been matched.
Adebutu also asked Ogun Central voters to reject what he called non-performance and vote for what he termed liberation.
He told supporters to vote for the PDP, protect their votes and resist intimidation during the 2027 elections.
Adebutu, Obasanjo make separate appeals
Adebutu used his address to connect the PDP’s current campaign with the party’s past administration at the national level.
He stated, “I want to remind you that the best times of Nigeria have largely emerged under the leadership of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, exemplified by what Baba Obasanjo did as a cornerstone for his successors.
“Happy days are coming again, very, very soon. In January, a new dawn will break for the betterment of our people.
“I therefore urge you all to make up your minds to reject this oppressive APC government with your votes. You must chart a better tomorrow for yourselves and your children. You must all turn out in your large numbers to vote for the PDP in the coming 2027 elections.
“Be ready to stand by your votes, resist intimidation and use the power of the ballot to say enough is enough to misgovernance and maladministration.”
Obasanjo, who is the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, also relied on her previous public service when asking voters for support.
She said she was glad that people in the places she visited continued to point to the work she did when she represented the district from 2007 to 2011.
She also served as Commissioner for Health from 2003 to 2007.
Obasanjo promised to do more to ensure that residents benefited from the dividends of democracy. She asked people in the state to support the PDP’s return to power and make life more comfortable and rewarding for everyone in Ogun State.
The campaign also gave party supporters an opportunity to publicly declare their backing for the candidates.
Residents and supporters who spoke at the events pledged their loyalty to the PDP candidates and assured them of their votes in 2027.
The party’s Ogun Central campaign therefore opened with activity in all three federal constituencies before the candidates addressed supporters at the district rally in Ake.
The candidates presented their appeal through their records, promises of purposeful representation and a direct request for voters to support the PDP at the 2027 elections.
