Plateau State Government has approved the creation of Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
The new ministry will be responsible for coordinating the state’s response to humanitarian emergencies, social protection and poverty reduction.
Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, who disclosed this while briefing journalists on Thursday, said the approval for the new ministry was given during the State Executive Council meeting held earlier in the day at the Government House in Jos.
Ramnap said the ministry would bring together the activities of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Trauma Center to improve coordination and delivery of humanitarian interventions.
The Commissioner noted that the ministry would strengthen collaborations between the state and Federal Government on humanitarian and poverty-reduction programmes, while ensuring faster and more effective assistance to vulnerable communities and individuals.
Ramnap said the establishment of the ministry by the Governor Caleb Mutfwang administration was “a strategic move to strengthen government interventions for vulnerable citizens and enhance the state’s capacity to respond effectively to humanitarian emergencies and poverty-related challenges.”
“The new ministry would provide a dedicated institutional framework for coordinating humanitarian assistance, social protection and poverty-reduction initiatives across the state,” she added.
