There has been a lot of speculations about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s return to the UK. While some are hopeful that the family will stay long-term, other reports states that their move could be short-lived for as little as six months. Later this month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be back in the UK, establishing residency in a non-royal address outside of London, and that they have already enrolled their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in British schools.
4While Archie and Lili are expected to start at their new schools in early September, their UK stay may just be short-lived.
“It’ll be an extended period of time,” a source told The Sunday Times. “It could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more. I don’t think even they know yet.
The insider added, “They might suddenly go, ‘Why don’t we try Canada for a while?’ They love Canada. ‘Why don’t we try Australia?’ It’s one of the great things about having left the institution.”
The publication claimed that Harry and Meghan only made the decision to move a week ago after their kids’ places were confirmed at school, despite having discussions about moving back for a couple of years.
Is Meghan Markle Seeking An ‘Exit Strategy’?
4Harry and Meghan’s decision to relocate is unclear, as their representatives have not commented about it. According to royal insider Rob Shuter, the move is a “trial” and stressed that the couple will be keeping their California and Portugal homes.
“Meghan is agreeing to try it, but she isn’t moving back to Britain,” sources told Shuter. “Six months is the test. She wants an exit strategy.”
The informants added, “Eventually, Harry may have to choose between his wife’s happiness and his country. That is the nightmare scenario nobody wants to talk about.”
How Did King Charles Know About The Move?
4The King was the first person Harry and Meghan told, as reported by Express. King Charles, who was in Balmoral for the annual family gathering in Scotland, was joined by the Prince of Wales.
According to the source, “The stars aligned: it’s perfect timing in terms of the children’s schooling, there appeared to be a good acting opportunity here [for Meghan] and also the draw of family not just being closer to the King, but the Spencers, with whom Harry is very close.”

4While Harry and Prince William are not in speaking terms, the insider noted that “there are other members of the Royal Family he remains close to.”
While other members of the British royal family are thrilled by Harry and Meghan’s relocation, Prince William is allegedly not the happiest about the matter.
The future king of England is currently estranged from Harry after his younger brother threw accusations against the prince, Kate, the King and Queen Camilla in the years since Harry and Meghan moved out of Britain in 2020.
A source told Express that the brothers’ relationship is “in cold storage and not coming out anytime soon.”
