Popular Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Davido and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, visited Wike at his residence in Abuja on Thursday, days after the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election.
A 16-second video circulating on social media showed Davido engaging Wike in a light conversation about the outcome of the governorship election.
The meeting has attracted criticism from Sowore, who accused the singer and other political actors of prioritising their interests despite the violence reported during the election period.
In a post on his X handle, Sowore described the politicians as “political hustlers” and questioned why Davido was “genuflecting before Nyesom Wike” less than a week after the election.
“Nigerian political hustlers will deceive the public, and the gullible will swallow the deception whole,” Sowore wrote.
He continued: “Here is the loud and lousy @davido genuflecting before Nyesom Wike @GovWike, barely a week after their ‘agreement is agreement’ election politics in Osun, a contest marred by deadly violence and the loss of scores of lives.”
Sowore alleged that the public exchanges and political disagreements surrounding the election concealed shared interests among the political actors involved.
“Behind all the public grandstanding, insults, and manufactured outrage, these political actors know exactly where their interests converge,” he said.

The activist further described the actors as “Dissemblers. Gerrymanderers. Carpetbaggers. Political hustlers. Lying machines”, adding that their “masks come off” when their interests are involved.
The criticism comes against the backdrop of reports of violence in parts of Osun State before and during the August 15 governorship election.
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party were reportedly among those killed during incidents linked to the election.
The governorship poll was won by incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who secured re-election after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC.
Davido, who openly supported his uncle during the election campaign, had also been involved in several public exchanges with political figures and critics surrounding the conduct and outcome of the poll.
The singer’s meeting with Wike has now triggered another round of political commentary, with Sowore questioning the relationship between public political rhetoric and private interactions among prominent political actors.
Neither Davido nor Wike had publicly responded to Sowore’s criticism at the time of filing this report.
