Tinubu Treks to Office, Rarely Uses Convoy, Hasn’t Left Nigeria in Three Months – NRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji

• Zacch Adedeji has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over government spending, saying the President does not maintain the extravagant lifestyle some Nigerians associate with public office.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu lives a modest personal lifestyle despite criticism over the cost of governance under his administration.

Adedeji made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he defended the President against claims that government officials live lavishly while many Nigerians struggle with economic hardship.

According to Adedeji, Tinubu sometimes walks from his residence to his office and does not ordinarily move around with a convoy.

“Mr. President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving. I don’t know except he’s going to the airport, so I don’t know where you see the convoy. In the last three months, he has not even left the shore of this country, walking trekking from work to If you go there now, you will still see him reviewing one document or the other,” he said.

Adedeji also questioned whether Tinubu could not afford some of the luxury items associated with presidential travel and security.

“How much is escalade that the president of Nigeria cannot afford?” he asked.

The NRS chairman further defended the use of government aircraft by the President, questioning whether Tinubu should be expected to travel like an ordinary passenger.

However, interviewer Seun Okinbaloye pointed out that the debate over the cost of governance goes beyond Tinubu’s personal lifestyle, noting that spending by ministers, agency heads and other government officials also forms part of the issue.

Adedeji maintained that government spending has an impact on the wider economy because businesses and individuals also earn from government activities and subsequently pay taxes.

“Government is both debit and credit,” he said.

His comments have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the claim that Tinubu regularly walks to work while others sarcastically welcomed the development.
