Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, “Operation FansanYamma”, have rescued 10 civilians in separate operations in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States in the last 48 hours.
This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by the media information officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt-Col. Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, troops on routine patrol in Isa local government area of Sokoto State on August 19, 2026, came under terrorist ambush.
“The troops responded swiftly and decisively, forcing the terrorists to flee in disarray. During the encounter, five civilians were rescued and subsequently reunited with their families, while two motorcycles abandoned by the terrorists were recovered,” Danja said.
He added that on August 18, troops acting on credible intelligence carried out a search and rescue operation in Danko Wasagu local government area of Kebbi State, leading to the rescue of three kidnapped victims.
The victims, he said, were profiled and handed over to the appropriate local authorities.
In a similar operation on the same day, troops responded to reports of terrorist activities in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara State.
“The rapid mobilization of the troops compelled the terrorists to flee the area, abandoning two captives. The victims, who had sustained gunshot wounds during their ordeal, were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment. Efforts are currently ongoing to track and neutralize the fleeing terrorists,” the statement added.
Danja said the Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response, and reassured residents of its determination to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations and enhance the protection of lives and property.
