Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has strongly criticised claims that Nigeria is an Islamic nation.

Oyedepo made the remarks while reacting to comments attributed to Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir concerning the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and the religious identity of Nigeria.

The cleric’s position reportedly sparked a response from the prominent Christian leader, who questioned how anyone could describe Nigeria as an Islamic country despite the large presence of Christian churches and worshippers across the nation.

Oyedepo pointed to major Christian worship centres, including Redemption Camp, Salvation Ministries and other ministries, as examples of the widespread Christian presence in Nigeria.

“Watch Redemption Camp, watch Salvation Ministries, and watch various churches in Nigeria, and then somebody will say Nigeria is an Islamic nation. Is he mad? Yes, he must be mad,” Oyedepo said.

His statement has since attracted attention online, with excerpts from his remarks circulating across social media platforms.
