“We don’t make empty promises in my family” — Adeleke vows to deliver Osun votes to Tinubu in 2027
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying he intends to help deliver the state’s votes to the president.
Adeleke made the declaration during a visit by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, as he reflected on his political relationship with Tinubu and his role in the 2023 National Assembly leadership elections.
The governor recalled that then Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila had contacted him during the Senate President and Speaker elections and told him that Tinubu wanted Osun federal lawmakers to support Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas.
Adeleke said he assured Gbajabiamila that he would handle the matter.
Adeleke recalls Tinubu’s request
According to Adeleke, three newly elected Osun senators were initially supporting Abdulaziz Yari’s bid for Senate President, but he persuaded them to vote for Akpabio, which they eventually did.
He said, “The President respected so much for this and during one of our meetings, he was practically looking for me, that’s a great honour.”
Adeleke also said he immediately reaffirmed his adoption of Tinubu for the 2027 election after his own election victory was announced, stressing that he wanted to avoid controversy.
Governor calls for political unity
The Osun governor further appealed to political actors in the state to put aside their differences and work towards Tinubu’s success.
He said, “Politics must be with integrity. We are all from Osun State, let’s forget our differences and work for the President.”
Adeleke acknowledged that his tenure as governor would eventually end, saying, “I won’t be the Governor forever. I’ll leave one day. Tomorrow it could be Ajibola Basiru or anyone else, who knows?”
His remarks have drawn attention because of the political significance of his renewed endorsement of Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
