Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez says the club’s bosses did not do enough to strengthen the squad in the summer.
He spoke after the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
He called the performance really poor.
He said he expects more investment and named director of football Jason Wilcox as the person who should deliver it.
He also said the players must do more, but that a strong squad is needed for nights like this.
Martinez said the club keeps changing managers when results dip and that other areas of the club should be examined too.
He backed Michael Carrick and said the team needs to move on from last season’s success rather than rely on it.
United spent about 150 million pounds on new players this summer, which is less than several of their Premier League rivals.
This was their third loss in five games against Atletico.
Carrick has won only one of his last seven matches.
Carrick said he had not seen the interview and would not comment on it.
He said the players care and are still together, and that they wanted to win badly.
