Super Falcons crush Comoros to book Olympic Qualifier with Morocco

Super Falcons of Nigeria are now through to the third round of the LA 2028 Olympics African women’s qualifiers after an aggregate 7-0 victory over Comoros.
A brace each from Uchenna Kanu and Toni Payne, plus a penalty from Christy Ucheibe, powered Nigeria to a 5-0 win in the second leg at the Remo Stars home ground in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday.
The Falcons controlled the game from the start but had to wait until the 41st minute to score. Kanu pounced on a defensive error and squared the ball for Payne, who fired into the net.
Kanu doubled the lead in the 58th minute, heading home Folashade Ijamilusi’s cross. Three minutes later, the Cruz Azul Femenil star thought she had her second, but the officials ruled the goal out for offside.

Payne made no mistake in the 63rd minute. Blessing Okpe dribbled past two Comoros defenders and found the Inter Milan Femminile forward, who finished with aplomb.
Kanu completed her brace three minutes later, meeting another Ijamilusi delivery. Okpe, a constant threat since coming on in the second half, then won a penalty, and Ucheibe converted it in the 71st minute.

Nigeria will face Morocco in the final qualifying round early next year, and the tie comes loaded with history.
The two sides met in the most recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, where Nigeria fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. Morocco will be hungry for revenge, and the Atlas Lionesses are likely to defend deeper and more compactly than Comoros did.
The Falcons will need to carry their cutting edge into that test. Kanu and Payne are in sharp form, Ijamilusi keeps delivering dangerous crosses, and Okpe adds directness off the bench. Whether that attack can break down a well-organised Moroccan side will decide who goes to Los Angeles.
