The Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Solomon Adeola, has mourned veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, saying he and his family supported the actor’s medical treatment until his death.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, made this known in a tribute signed alongside his wife, Temitope Adeola, and shared on Facebook on Monday.
The APC candidate said Ogogo’s death was particularly painful after the actor’s prolonged battle with illness and the family’s hopes for his recovery.
According to Adeola, he and his family stood by Ogogo and his relatives during the difficult period, providing support for his treatment and making efforts to ensure he received necessary medical care.
“During those difficult moments, we stood closely with him and his family, supporting his treatment and doing everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care.”
He said the family remained hopeful and prayerful that the actor would recover, but expressed sadness that he eventually died despite the efforts made.
“We remained hopeful and prayerful that he would overcome the illness and return to the family, friends and countless admirers who cherished him. Sadly, despite all efforts, it has pleased Almighty God to call him home. Indeed, God knows best.”
Adeola described Ogogo as more than a veteran entertainer, calling him a “dear brother” and a proud son of Ilaro and Ogun West.
He said the actor’s career had brought joy to generations and contributed significantly to the development of the Nigerian film industry.
“His talent, humility and enduring body of work will ensure that his memory lives on,” Adeola said.
The politician extended his condolences to Ogogo’s wife, children and extended family, as well as the people of Ilaro and Yewaland and the actor’s colleagues in the entertainment industry.
He also prayed for the late actor, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

Adeola’s tribute comes after Ogogo’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, acknowledged his support for their father during his illness.
Kaira had earlier thanked the politician for assisting the family with the actor’s medical bills while appealing for further medical intervention.
Ogogo died at about 3pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026, aged 66, according to a burial announcement by veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
His remains were taken to Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his burial on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.
The actor had battled stage-four cancer, with his daughters previously revealing that doctors had stopped chemotherapy because of his condition.
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades and hundreds of film appearances.
