Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has reacted to reports of a purported N1 billion lawsuit involving actress Judy Austin, making it clear that she is not backing down from speaking her mind.

In a lengthy post shared on social media, Edochie appeared unfazed by the reported legal action and suggested that no attempt to silence her would stop her from expressing her views.

“LOOK FOR A WAY AND STOP RITA EDOCHIE FROM TALKING,” she wrote.

Although she did not directly address the details of the alleged lawsuit, the actress used the opportunity to share her thoughts on infidelity, marriage, forgiveness and the difficult decisions some women face in troubled relationships.

According to Edochie, repeatedly forgiving a partner for cheating could eventually make the person feel entitled to continue the behaviour.

“TODAY IT IS CHINASA, TOMORROW IT IS NKECHI, NEXT THING, HE HAS TURNED INFIDELITY INTO A LIFESTYLE,” she stated.

She also urged people to understand that remaining in a difficult marriage does not necessarily mean a woman enjoys being mistreated. Edochie noted that several factors, including children, finances, family expectations and emotional attachment, can make leaving a marriage far more complicated than outsiders may realise.

“SOME WOMEN ARE NOT STAYING BECAUSE THEY LOVE THE HUMILIATION,” she wrote. “THEY ARE STAYING BECAUSE MARRIAGE, CHILDREN, FAMILY PRESSURE, FINANCIAL REALITIES, EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT, AND SOCIETY CAN MAKE WALKING AWAY FAR MORE COMPLICATED THAN PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE MARRIAGE WILL EVER UNDERSTAND.”

The actress further stressed that choosing to remain in a marriage should not be interpreted as accepting endless disrespect or mistreatment.

She maintained that forgiveness and patience should not be mistaken for weakness, warning men against taking their wives’ tolerance for granted.

“FORGIVENESS IS NOT PERMISSION. PATIENCE IS NOT STUPIDITY. SUBMISSION IS NOT SERVITUUDE,” Edochie wrote.

She went on to suggest that a woman who has endured years of hardship may eventually decide that she has reached her limit.

“THAT IS WHEN YOU WILL REALIZE THAT THE WOMAN YOU THOUGHT HAD NO CHOICE ACTUALLY HAD ONE. SHE WAS ONLY GIVING YOU TIME,” she concluded.

Rita Edochie’s latest post comes amid the continued public drama surrounding actor Yul Edochie, his first wife, May Edochie, and Judy Austin, whom Yul publicly acknowledged as his second wife in 2022.

Edochie has consistently shown support for May and has been outspoken about the controversy surrounding the actor’s marriages, making her latest comments another notable contribution to the ongoing saga.
