Music executive and entrepreneur Ubi Franklin has shared his thoughts on what it would take for an artiste to break into Nigeria’s highly debated “Big 3” conversation, which features Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido.
According to Franklin, having hit songs and a strong music catalogue may not be enough for an artiste hoping to reach the level of the country’s biggest music stars.
He argued that the artistes already regarded as members of the “Big 3” have built extensive catalogues and successful careers over the years, making it difficult for newcomers to compete through music alone.
“Any artiste trying to break into the ‘Big 3’ (Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido) conversation can’t do it with music alone. They already have the catalog. You need to be grossing at least $20M yearly to come close, plus the lifestyle” He said..
