2027: Jibrin projects 65% vote for Tinubu

A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has projected that President Bola Tinubu could secure at least 65 per cent of the votes cast in the 2027 presidential election; he cited what he described as the President’s growing popularity.
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, made the projection on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday. His statement is a political assessment, not an electoral forecast issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The lawmaker also pointed to Tinubu’s political record where he described him as a former Lagos State governor who, in his assessment, has not lost an election.
His comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential contest. INEC has confirmed the presidential field for the election, with Tinubu contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and several opposition figures running on separate party tickets.
Jibrin’s projection particularly emphasises the President’s standing among voters. He did not provide polling figures or other statistical evidence to support the 65 per cent estimate during the interview.
The federal lawmaker also devoted part of his assessment to the role of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in the APC’s political structure.
Jibrin said the former Rivers State governor as an asset to the ruling party and credited him with making what he portrayed as significant political sacrifices in support of Tinubu.
He specifically referenced Wike’s role in Rivers State, saying the minister had contributed to the state’s movement into the APC camp. Jibrin added that members of the ruling party had benefited, directly or indirectly, from Wike’s support for the President.
The lawmaker consequently called on APC governors to recognise Wike as part of the party’s political family.
The remarks add another dimension to the debate over Wike’s place within the APC’s evolving political arrangement. His continued presence in the Federal Government has attracted attention because he entered the administration after serving as a prominent figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Jibrin’s comments also come amid competing claims from politicians about the shape of the 2027 contest. Former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, speaking on the same Channels Television programme a day earlier, also predicted a Tinubu victory, including in a scenario where opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi unite.
INEC’s electoral calendar positions the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections within the formal electoral timetable, while political parties continue organising their campaigns and alliances ahead of the poll.
Against that backdrop, Jibrin’s 65 per cent projection represents his reading of Tinubu’s political standing as the campaign season approaches. The actual distribution of votes, however, will be determined by voters and the eventual election process.
