The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports claiming that the party does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the reports as false and an attempt to undermine its growing political presence across the country.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., the party said it had duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold in 2027.
The NDC said reports suggesting otherwise were “false, malicious” and designed to mislead Nigerians and weaken the party’s momentum ahead of the elections.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” the statement said.
The party further described itself as a national political movement, insisting that it has structures, candidates and supporters across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

NDC Urges Media to Verify Reports
The party also called on media organisations, journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information before publishing political reports.
It urged media practitioners to scrutinise their sources, arguing that the circulation of unverified claims could undermine public confidence in both the media and the democratic process.
“Journalism thrives on truth, not rumors,” the party said, adding that it would remain focused on what it described as issue-based politics rather than being distracted by what it called sponsored falsehoods.
The NDC said it was positioning itself as an alternative to what it described as the “old order,” promising Nigerians a political platform focused on security, job creation and accountability.
The party called on Nigerians to join its political movement, declaring that its “rescue mission” had begun ahead of the 2027 elections.
