Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s Campaign Organisation has dismissed Governor Seyi Makinde’s claim that the senator never practised law, describing the statement as an indication of the governor’s alleged ignorance of the legal profession.
The organisation, in a statement issued on Saturday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, said Alli’s legal practice could be independently verified through records of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The group was reacting to remarks reportedly made by Makinde on Friday during a welcome reception marking his return from annual leave.
According to Oladele, the governor’s claim was “factually incorrect” and amounted to an attempt to question Alli’s professional credentials ahead of the 2027 political contest in Oyo State.
“Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s legal practice is verifiable at the Nigerian Bar Association and the Corporate Affairs Commission,” the statement said.
The campaign organisation challenged Makinde to substantiate his claim that Alli never practised law, rather than making what it described as sweeping political assertions.
It further accused the governor of being uncomfortable with Alli’s political profile and alleged growing support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The group said the senator’s professional record, including his involvement in legal practice and corporate affairs, could be subjected to public scrutiny.
Oladele also criticised the tone of the governor’s remarks, arguing that an official reception should provide an opportunity to discuss issues of governance and development rather than personal political attacks.
The organisation maintained that the 2027 election would ultimately be decided by voters in Oyo State, while urging politicians to focus on verifiable records and public issues rather than personal claims.
