0No fewer than 21 foreign nationals allegedly involved in criminal activities have been arrested by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps.
The security agency described the development as disturbing, alleging that the suspects, mostly nationals of neighbouring West African countries, had been posing as phone sellers and repairers while living in accommodations considered inconsistent with their reported economic activities.
The Amotekun Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this while parading 53 suspects arrested for various offences, including kidnapping, murder, cattle rustling and diesel theft.
Adeleye said investigations revealed that some of the foreign nationals were operating with the assistance of local collaborators, including landlords who allegedly rented properties to them without proper documentation.
He said all 21 foreign suspects had been profiled and would be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The commander also disclosed that four individuals were arrested in Akure North Local Government Area for allegedly staging a fake kidnapping and spreading false alarms on social media.
According to him, initial reports indicated that a kidnapping had taken place, but further investigation revealed that one of the individuals who reported the incident was allegedly an accomplice.
Adeleye said the suspect eventually led security operatives to the location where the supposed victim had been hiding, confirming that the incident was allegedly staged to create panic and extort money.
