Chelsea fail to keep a clean sheet for 20th straight game as Hull hold Blues to 2-2 draw

Chelsea’s defensive troubles stretched to a 20th consecutive match as Hull City snatched a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Xabi Alonso’s side raced ahead inside seven minutes when Morgan Rogers latched onto a Joao Pedro pass and slammed a near-post finish past Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Chelsea dominated the opening exchanges and threatened to build a bigger cushion, but Hull’s deep block held firm and limited clear sightings of goal.

Everything changed after Tzolakis collided with Levi Colwill and needed treatment. The stoppage seemed to disrupt Chelsea’s rhythm: moments after play resumed, Jorrel Hato misjudged a long ball and let Mohamed Belloumi power home a leveller.

Hull then struck again just six minutes later, as a corner cannoned off the crossbar and fell for Belloumi to smash in his second, deflecting the ball beyond Emiliano Martinez.

Chelsea regrouped at half-time, introducing Pep Chavarria for Hato and ramping up the urgency. Reece James rattled the crossbar area with two dangerous free-kicks before Cole Palmer finally carved Hull open, driving to the byline and squaring for Joao Pedro to readjust and drill a left-footed finish into the roof of the net.

Despite pushing hard for a winner, Rogers denied late on, Estevao forcing a save, and Palmer sending a stoppage-time free-kick just over  Chelsea couldn’t find the breakthrough. Hull held on, extending Chelsea’s run without a clean sheet to 20 matches and leaving the Blues fourth in the table with seven points from four games.

Chelsea next face Brentford away on Friday at 8pm.
