Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has sparked reactions online after sharing his perspective on financial responsibility in marriage, particularly the role men play in providing for their families.
The respected actor made the remarks during an interview with Isbae U on the popular interview series, Curiosity Made Me Ask, where he reflected on lessons he has gathered from his 57 years of marriage.
According to Edochie, married men should avoid getting to a point where they become dependent on their wives for their basic needs, especially food. He described such a situation as potentially humiliating for a man, drawing from his own experience of nearly six decades in marriage.
Speaking during the interview, the veteran actor said:
“I want you to listen properly. This is wisdom from somebody who has been in that institution for almost 60 years. I have been married for the past 57 years. If things change and your wife has to feed you for two or three days, you would want to take poison. The kind of insult that will be heaped on you because your wife is feeding you, don’t ever think about it.”
His comments have since generated discussion among social media users, with many debating his views on marriage, gender roles and financial responsibilities between couples.
