FC Utrecht Bans 18 Fans After Fireworks and Cups Disrupt Go Ahead Eagles Match
FC Utrecht has handed stadium bans to 18 supporters following misconduct during the club’s match against Go Ahead Eagles.
The bans currently apply only to FC Utrecht’s home stadium, Stadion Galgenwaard. The KNVB could also impose national stadium bans depending on the evidence against those involved.
The Eredivisie match on September 5 was stopped while Go Ahead Eagles were leading 3-1.
The game was abandoned after FC Utrecht supporters threw fireworks and cups, causing repeated disruptions.
The remaining 26 minutes of the match were played at a later date. Utrecht fought back from 3-1 down to secure a 3-3 draw.
FC Utrecht said the 18 supporters were identified with the help of available camera footage. The club worked with the KNVB during the investigation and informed those identified about their punishments.
The investigation is still ongoing.
“FC Utrecht further analyzes the available images to identify other stakeholders,” the club said. “This takes a careful look at the different roles and actions of the people who come into the picture.”
More supporters could therefore face action as the club continues reviewing footage from the incident.
