A UK-based g@y Igbo man has opened up about his identity and what Pride means to him, stressing that he has no regrets about openly embracing both his sexuality and Igbo heritage.
Speaking about the significance of Pride, the man explained that the celebration gives him an opportunity to express himself freely and remind others that members of the LGBTQ+ community exist and deserve to be seen.
According to him, Pride is also a way of making a statement about visibility and permanence, as he expressed confidence in his identity despite possible criticism from others.
“For me, pride is an opportunity to be who I am, to express myself. Pride is trying to tell people that we are here, and we have come to stay. I am Igbo and g@y and I am unapologetic. If you don’t like it, that is your cup of tea,” he said.
His remarks have sparked conversations about identity, self-expression and the experiences of LGBTQ+ people who openly embrace their cultural backgrounds.
