NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed reports of a rift between him and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, saying the two politicians are not fighting.

Obi made the statement while speaking on Friday amid the ongoing dispute over the financial obligations allegedly left behind by his administration when he was governor of Anambra State.

He also disclosed that he and his wife are godparents to Soludo’s children, stressing that he would respond if the governor or his administration makes further comments about him.

“I and my wife are godparents to Soludo’s children. We are not fighting. If they say anything, I will answer them. Like I said yesterday, I didn’t leave any debt in Anambra State. Even Governor Alex Otti confirmed it this morning on national TV.”

Obi has repeatedly denied that he left Anambra with unpaid debts, salaries, pensions or verified contractor liabilities. The Anambra State Government, however, has maintained that loans and other financial obligations incurred during previous administrations, including Obi’s tenure, are still being serviced.

Otti, who was CEO of Diamond Bank during Obi’s final years as governor, has also recently said he could attest to the $155 million Obi said he left for Anambra and described how the funds were converted to dollars and invested.

Obi’s latest comments come as the debate over his administration’s financial record continues to generate reactions in Anambra and beyond.
