Afrobeats superstar Davido has sent a fresh message to his critics amid his ongoing online clash with Nigerian rapper Erigga over family wealth, privilege and success.
The singer took to X to hit back at those who have continued to mock his wealthy background, insisting that he would continue to enjoy the money he has made as well as his family’s wealth.
Davido wrote, “I go chop my own money .. still chop my pale own .. if e pain you go slap your poor papa.”
His latest comment comes amid a heated exchange between him and Erigga that started after the rapper celebrated musicians who did not come from wealthy families and had to work for every dollar they earned.
Erigga had written, “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
Although Erigga did not mention Davido by name, the singer appeared to take the post personally and responded by highlighting that artistes from wealthy families also worked hard to reach the top.
Davido later described Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and called him an “imbecile,” escalating the online exchange. Erigga subsequently pushed back, questioning why Davido appeared offended by a post that did not mention him.
The back-and-forth has since divided social media users, with some defending Davido and others accusing him of being overly sensitive to Erigga’s original post.
Davido’s latest statement has now triggered another wave of reactions from Nigerians online.
