‘I never told Tinubu I would join APC’ — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he never promised President Bola Tinubu that he would join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

he explained that his commitment was only to support Tinubu’s bid for re-election and not to become a member of the ruling party.

The FCT minister made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday night.

According to him, he had made it clear from the beginning that he would support the President but never promised to defect to the APC.

“I told them I would support the President right from the start,” Wike said.

“I never told Mr President I will join APC. Go and ask him. If I want to join APC, it’s not people like Hope who will tell me to join APC.”

Wike was apparently referring to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who has been involved in recent political discussions surrounding the minister and his relationship with APC governors.

The former Rivers State governor further said he was fortunate not to be a member of the APC, arguing that he would not tolerate what he described as inappropriate conduct within the party.

“In fact, he is lucky I’m not in APC because I wouldn’t put up with that kind of nonsense he’s doing in APC,” he added.
