The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, has welcomed the arrest of suspects involved in the alleged vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Ikirun, Osun State.
The company said it was cooperating fully with the Nigeria Police Force in the ongoing investigation into the alleged incident.
In a statement, signed by Angela Olanrewaju, Coordinating Head, Corporate Services, reaffirmed IBEDC’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of critical electricity infrastructure across its franchise area.
DAILY POST had reported that four IBEDC staff and two welders were arrested in Ikirun by personnel of the Osun State Police Command for allegedly vandalising electrical equipment belonging to the company.
IBEDC stated that its cooperation was aimed at ensuring that the investigation was conducted thoroughly, transparently and impartially.
The electricity distribution company also disclosed that some of its staff members allegedly implicated in the matter had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
“Appropriate internal disciplinary measures would be taken against any staff member found culpable, in accordance with its policies and applicable regulations.
“IBEDC maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards vandalism, theft of electricity infrastructure and other forms of unethical or criminal conduct,” the statement said.
The company said vandalism of electricity infrastructure had become a growing concern, with significant consequences for electricity supply, customers, communities and its operations.
According to IBEDC, damage to critical electricity assets could result in prolonged outages, service disruptions and avoidable inconvenience for electricity consumers.
The company said it had consistently raised concerns over the increasing incidence of vandalism and the impact on electricity infrastructure within its franchise area.
“IBEDC will continue to support law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law,” the company said.
It also urged customers, community leaders and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around electricity infrastructure through appropriate channels.
