“If you like vote for those people lapping each other” — Makinde throws jab at APC’s Sharafadeen Alli
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, while speaking about the political choices facing residents ahead of the 2027 election.
Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, appeared to caution voters against supporting political opponents whom he suggested might abandon them after securing their votes.
The governor made the remark amid growing political activity in Oyo State as parties position themselves for the battle to determine his successor.
Makinde sends message to Oyo voters
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Makinde said, “If you like vote for those people lapping each other, that’s where your problem will start; they will first forget you. You better vote for who we said you should vote for.”
His comment comes as Alli emerges as a major figure in the race to succeed Makinde.
The APC recently formally unveiled Alli as its governorship candidate alongside candidates for other elective positions in Oyo State.
Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has called for unity within the APC as the party seeks to strengthen its chances ahead of the election.
Oyo governorship race gathers momentum
The emerging political exchanges underline the growing attention surrounding the contest to succeed Makinde, who is serving his second term as governor.
With the APC rallying behind Alli, attention is also expected to remain on the PDP and its efforts to retain control of the state after Makinde’s tenure.
