A Nigerian lady has sparked an online debate after criticising the lavish birthday celebrations some celebrities organise for their young children.

Reacting to the extravagant celebrations held for children by public figures, the lady questioned the need to spend heavily on birthdays that the children may be too young to remember.

She specifically referenced Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, her daughter Priscilla and Juma Jux, who recently held a lavish birthday celebration for their one-year-old child.

According to her, throwing such an elaborate party for a child who would likely have no memory of the occasion was unnecessary and appeared to be more about public display than the child.

“Iyabo Ojo, Priscilla And Her Husband Throwing Such An Extravagant Birthday Party For a One-Year-Old Who Won’t Even Remember Anything That Happened On That Day Is Not Just a Waste, But All For Show,” she said.

She also questioned the cowboy-themed dress code reportedly associated with the celebration, asking whether Nigerians understood the meaning or significance behind the trend.

“And What’s With The Cowboy Dress Code? Do Nigerians Actually Know The Mystery Behind The Cowboy Dress Code?” she added.

The lady went on to mention fashion designer Veekee James, who also attracted attention for organising a major celebration for her three-month-old baby.

“Veekee James Also Held a Huge Celebration For Her Three-Month-Old Baby,” she stated.

Drawing a comparison between celebrity lifestyles and political leadership in Nigeria, she argued that Nigerians often criticise politicians for excessive spending and poor governance while overlooking similar displays of extravagance among celebrities.

“Yet, We Blame Our Government For Being Bad And Our Politicians For Being Wasteful, While Ignoring The Lifestyle Some Of Our Celebrities Are Living,” she concluded.

Her comments have since generated reactions, with the debate centred on whether lavish celebrations for infants are unnecessary displays of wealth or simply a personal choice for parents who want to mark important milestones with family and friends.
