Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved an upward review of the salaries and allowances of traditional rulers across the state.
The approval covers emirs, district heads, and village heads across the three senatorial districts and aims to improve their welfare and strengthen their capacity to discharge their responsibilities effectively at the grassroots.
In a statement on Thursday, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the governor had also approved monthly security allowances for all 35 emirates and chiefdoms in the state, effective from 1 September 2026.
According to him, the measure is expected to strengthen grassroots intelligence gathering and support security agencies in tackling crime and other security threats.
The Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman-Lagos, described traditional institutions as indispensable partners in grassroots governance, peace-building, conflict resolution and security.
He said the closeness of traditional rulers to their communities placed them in a strategic position to identify emerging threats, provide timely intelligence and resolve disputes before they escalated.
The commissioner urged traditional rulers to use the enhanced support to promote peaceful coexistence, strengthen mutual trust and foster harmony among the diverse communities in the state.
The Kaduna State Government also urged residents to continue cooperating with traditional institutions and security agencies by providing timely and credible information to safeguard lives and property.
The government said the approval further demonstrated its commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and enhancing their role in peace, security and development across the state.
