The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested multiple suspects in connection with alleged b@nditry, gunrunning and vehicle th3ft, recovering firearms, two stolen vehicles and suspected counterfeit US dollar notes across separate operations in the state.
The command’s spokesperson disclosed the arrests on Thursday, explaining that operations were carried out following intelligence gathered by police.
In one operation in the Kidandan area of Giwa Local Government Area, police personnel supported by members of the Kaduna Vigilance Service encountered suspected b@ndits who had been disturbing farmers.
When the suspects opened fire, operatives responded and the criminals fled into the bush, abandoning a pump action rifle, two cartridges and a motorcycle.
Around the Maraban Jos axis, police set up roadblocks after receiving intelligence about suspected gunrunners moving through the area.
The suspects fled, leaving behind nine locally fabricated firearms as police efforts continue to apprehend them.
Three suspects were arrested at Panteka while allegedly attempting to sell a stolen black GMK Jeep valued at seventy million naira.
The vehicle was being offered for four million naira after allegedly being prepared for dismantling and sale as spare parts.
Investigation revealed that one suspect, Ashiru Ibrahim, had stolen the vehicle from Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he worked as a driver for a Chinese company.
Police also recovered a white Toyota Hilux allegedly stolen from Agadez, Niger Republic, and arrested Abubakar Abdullahi who was found in possession of the vehicle.
Verification of the chassis number confirmed it matched the vehicle reported stolen in Niger Republic.
In another operation, Kaduna police arrested Kabir Yusuf over alleged possession of counterfeit currency.
A search recovered three hundred thirty two suspected counterfeit one hundred dollar notes valued at thirty three thousand two hundred dollars plus six counterfeit one thousand naira notes.
Yusuf reportedly told investigators he obtained the counterfeit currencies from Sahibu Ruhan of Kano State, who remains at large.
Police efforts continue to arrest Ruhan and uncover other members of the alleged counterfeit currency network.
