Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is set to travel to New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he will engage global leaders, development partners and international investors in a bid to attract fresh investments and strategic partnerships to the state.
Lawal’s participation at the high-level gathering will provide an opportunity to showcase Zamfara’s development potential and present the state’s priorities in security, economic growth, education, healthcare and sustainable development to an international audience.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly is themed “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”
The governor’s programme of engagements is expected to begin on September 18 with participation in a High-Level Executive Global Roundtable Side Event and the SDG Moment, where world leaders and stakeholders will deliberate on accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
On September 21, Lawal is scheduled to speak at a high-level side event organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) during the 81st General Assembly.
The event, titled “From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts,” will also witness the launch of the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030.
The framework is expected to provide a platform for mobilising strategic partnerships and investments aimed at strengthening peace, security, resilience and economic development across the Northwest.
Beyond the UN-led engagements, Lawal is also expected to participate in the SDG Roundtable Discussion 2026, the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, the African-Caribbean High-Level Interactive Dialogue: Redefining Influence, Accelerating Action, and the Nigeria Investment Forum.
The governor’s engagements are expected to place Zamfara’s investment opportunities before international investors while opening discussions on partnerships capable of supporting development across critical sectors.
For Zamfara, the New York engagements represent an opportunity to connect the state’s development agenda with global institutions, investors and development partners, particularly in areas where international collaboration could support economic expansion, human capital development, infrastructure and sustainable development.
