‘I Never Protested Against Jonathan’s Government’ — Adeboye Clarifies

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has dismissed reports suggesting that he participated in a protest against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, insisting that the exercise was a march against corruption.
Adeboye made the clarification during the church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service, where he addressed renewed references to an earlier march in which he was reportedly seen carrying a placard.
The renowned cleric explained that the march was organised to demand an end to corruption in Nigeria and should not be interpreted as a political demonstration against Jonathan or his administration.
According to him, the exercise was driven by concerns over corruption and the state of the nation, rather than an attempt to undermine any government.
Adeboye stressed that although he remained concerned about Nigeria’s political and socio-economic challenges, his responsibility as a spiritual leader was to pray for those in positions of authority rather than organise protests against them.
“I did not carry any placard against Jonathan. What we did was a march against corruption.
“I have never protested against any government. My own is to pray for those in authority,” he said.
His clarification comes amid renewed attention to his past public engagements and the role of religious leaders in speaking out on national issues.
The RCCG leader maintained that his position was rooted in the responsibility of the Church to pray for the nation and its leaders, irrespective of the government in power.
