Lionel Messi has strengthened his position as Inter Miami’s leading goalscorer and assist provider.
The 39-year-old registered an assist during the club’s 2-2 draw with Atlanta United on September 5, 2026.
Messi delivered a corner that Casemiro headed into the net in the 32nd minute.
Miguel Almirón equalised for Atlanta United shortly afterwards.
Luis Suárez restored Inter Miami’s lead before halftime. Breel Embolo later converted an 87th-minute penalty to secure a draw for Atlanta.
The assist took Messi’s 2026 MLS regular-season total to 18 goals and 11 assists.
Pulse Ghana reported that he provided two assists and reached 12 league assists. However, Inter Miami’s official match report only credited him with one assist.
Across all competitions, Messi has recorded 98 goals and 54 assists in 112 appearances for Inter Miami.
He joined the Florida club in July 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi became Inter Miami’s leading goalscorer in October 2024. His hat-trick against New England Revolution moved him past Leonardo Campana’s former club record.
Gonzalo Higuaín had previously held the record before Campana overtook him.
Messi produced another major performance on August 29, 2026. He scored four goals and provided an assist as Inter Miami defeated CF Montréal 7-1.
It was his first four-goal performance in an MLS match.
The result also ended Inter Miami’s five-game winless run across all competitions.
Messi remains joint top of the 2026 MLS scoring chart with 18 goals.
