The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has sent Mr John Ughulu to a panel for punishment after he announced an unapproved presidential campaign team for the 2027 general elections.
The National Working Committee of the political group took the action on Saturday night through a statement signed by the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas.
Trouble started three days earlier when Ughulu, acting as the Director-General of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, also known as the OK Movement, published a list of 59 people to lead a campaign for the party.
The political group totally disowned the entire list, warning that no member or helper can set up election committees without permission from top party leaders.

Cleopas stated that candidates on the party ticket cannot operate like independent workers because they answered to party leadership. He instructed the public and journalists to ignore the announcement from the group.
The chairman accused Ughulu of showing bad behavior during the Lagos State primary election and repeatedly disobeying party rules, which led to the decision to hand him over to the disciplinary committee.
Unauthorised campaign team setup
The disputed list released by the OK Movement created positions for officers across the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory.
The team included state and zonal coordinators alongside the movement’s National Secretary, Saadatu Sani.
It also contained directors for strategy, legal matters, security, grassroots mobilization, procurement, information technology, women affairs, administration, contact, and special duties.
While the NDC acknowledged the help coming from outside groups, it stated that external teams must not act as a second political party.
Cleopas asked aggrieved members to stop attacking the political organisation in public and use internal channels to solve disputes instead.
Group rejects party control
In his response, Ughulu criticised Cleopas, calling the national chairman insensitive for releasing the statement against his group.
The OK Movement boss, in a report by PUNCH, declared that his group operates independently from the main party hierarchy.
He explained that political movements do not take instructions from party leaders because they work directly for their chosen candidates.
The matter now rests with the internal disciplinary organ of the NDC to determine the next step for Ughulu according to party laws.
