Nicolas Cage‘s Malibu mansion faced a frightening disaster.
The beachfront property’s driveway and sections of the nearby road have collapsed, exposing the ground below. The four-level residence boasts ocean views, a private rooftop deck, and a secluded beach.
Nicolas Cage bought the Malibu home for $10.5 million in 2024. The actor has an impressive real estate portfolio of as many as 15 properties across America and Europe, including a Bel Air mansion, a private island in the Bahamas, castles in Germany and England, and many others.
The actor’s multi-million mansion almost vanished after a massive sinkhole swallowed part of its surroundings. The mansion’s driveway has effectively disappeared into a deep hole outside the home.
Asphalt and concrete appear to have cracked apart, taking several objects down with them. A construction-site portable toilet and pieces of a privacy fence were among the debris.
Orange cones surrounded the damaged area as workers in safety vests examined the scene. A fire truck was also photographed nearby with a yellow hose extended from the vehicle.
The firefighters discovered the sinkhole Tuesday morning while responding to a suspected gas main break. The hole was believed to measure roughly 30 feet by 30 feet and was attributed to coastal erosion.
No injuries or evacuations had been reported, although gas company workers were restoring the damaged main. The 4,000-square-foot home was purchased by Cage for $10.5 million in 2024.
Page Six reported that the property sits at risk from extreme erosion, with its driveway and adjacent road collapsing toward the Pacific. The disaster followed heavy rain and high surf along Southern California’s coast after Hurricane Marie developed.

The Malibu residence had already attracted attention for its striking design and coveted location. The ocean-facing property features floor-to-ceiling glass and extensive spaces designed to connect indoor and outdoor living.
It also includes a rare rooftop deck overlooking the Pacific. The private courtyard provides one entrance, while the two-car garage connects to an elevator. Inside, the living room features vaulted ceilings, a bar area, and a fireplace.
The second level contains a chef’s kitchen fitted with high-end stainless-steel appliances and a center island. Four en suite bedrooms occupy the third floor, including a primary suite facing the Pacific. The property also comes with an adjacent beach lot and a secluded beach.
SFGate shared that Cage bought the home for $10.5 million after it repeatedly appeared on the market. The 1994-built property had previously been listed for $11.25 million and once carried an asking price as high as $17.9 million. Seller Lenard Liberman confirmed the sale, explaining that his father built the home and considered it his “happy place.”

He also bought a Newport Beach waterfront residence for $25 million and later sold it for $35 million. His collection once stretched to a $3 million private island in the Bahamas and castles in Germany and England.
Cage also owns the LaLaurie Mansion in New Orleans, purchasing the reportedly haunted property for $3.4 million. Several of his properties were eventually lost as his financial difficulties intensified.
It was revealed by Love Property that Cage was once $14 million behind on taxes and nearly faced bankruptcy in 2009. He later said he had been “overinvested in real estate” when the market crashed. By 2022, the actor had confirmed that he had settled his debts and was living in Las Vegas with his wife, Riko Shibata.

Cage has described his current life as “extraordinarily boring” and “monastic,” with much of his time centered around his youngest child, who he shares with Shibata.
