Isaac Fayose has expressed concern over the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 presidential election, alleging that opposition parties are being prevented from effectively campaigning across parts of the country.
Fayose claimed that despite the election drawing closer, there appears to be little sign of active campaigns, which he attributed to what he described as the Tinubu administration’s suppression of opposition parties.
According to him, there is currently no level playing field for political parties, as opposition groups are allegedly facing restrictions in different states.
He cited incidents involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including an alleged tear-gassing incident in Kaduna, while also claiming that similar situations are occurring in Lagos and Benue.
Fayose said the development was unusual, warning that Nigerians should be concerned about the lack of visible opposition activities despite the approaching election.
He stated:
“The 2027 Presidential Election Is Close, But It Doesn’t Look Like Election Campaigns Are Happening Because The Tinubu Government Is Not Allowing Opposition To Campaign. They Have Suppressed The Opposition And There Is No Level Playing Ground. ADC Was Tear-Gassed In Kaduna. The Same Thing Is Happening In Lagos; They’re Not Allowing Any Campaigns For The Opposition. Same With Benue. That’s Why It Doesn’t Look Like An Election Is Coming, Even Though It Is. This Is Not Normal. We Need To Do Something. Four Months To Go, There Is No Sign Of The Opposition.”
His comments have added to ongoing discussions about the political environment and the preparedness of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
