Nigerian singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, better known as Joeboy, has opened up about his views on marriage, revealing that he would prefer to settle down at a relatively young age.
The 29-year-old music star explained that he likes the idea of getting married in his 20s and raising teenage children by the time he reaches his 40s.
Joeboy made the revelation during an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, where he reflected on the benefits of marrying early.
According to the singer, his perspective was partly influenced by a recent interview with Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson, who had previously expressed regret about not getting married earlier despite his reputation as a ladies’ man.
Joeboy said Timini’s comments made him reconsider the idea of early marriage and see it as something that could be appealing when one finds a person they genuinely love.
“I saw an interview of Timini. He’s like the ideal playboy; almost all the girls claim to love him, and he was like, he wished he got married early. I was like, if you’re a playboy and you can say this, that means marrying early might actually be nice.
“That is not the only identifier for me. But marrying early to someone who you genuinely love is going to be cute. Being 40 and having a 16-year-old kid is cute.
“But marriage is not really about whenever it feels cool. If it just feels right to you and you love the person, do it.
“Personally, I would rather get married early. But if I get married right now, nobody is going to know.
“Maybe when I have like three kids, people will now find out that Joeboy has a whole family somewhere,” he said.
The singer’s comments suggest that while he is open to marriage, he would prefer to keep such a major aspect of his personal life away from public attention.
For Joeboy, finding the right partner appears to matter more than following a particular timeline, with love and genuine connection being key factors in deciding when to settle down.
