Severe traffic delays near Kara Bridge on Wednesday has led the Ogun State Government to deploy emergency traffic officers to restore order along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Governor Dapo Abiodun instructed officers from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) to intervene and assist stranded motorists.
TRACE personnel joined teams from security, emergency, and traffic management authorities to clear blockages along the affected stretch of road.
The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway serves as a vital transport route connecting workers, business operators, local residents, and long-distance travellers. The heavy congestion around Kara Bridge caused major travel disruptions, making movement difficult for thousands of people using the interstate corridor.

Addressing the public, Governor Abiodun explained that his administration took notice of the travel hardship and took direct action to bring relief to the area.
“Our immediate priority is to protect lives, maintain order and reduce the inconvenience being experienced by commuters,” Abiodun stated on X on Wednesday.
To prevent the bottleneck from getting worse, the governor warned drivers against dangerous driving habits that slow down emergency operations.
He advised motorists to exercise caution, avoid driving against oncoming traffic, and stop creating unauthorized extra lanes, as these actions worsen delays. Commercial drivers and operators of heavy trucks were specifically instructed to show self-control and obey instructions from traffic controllers on duty.
The Ogun State Government confirmed that emergency teams will remain stationed along the corridor to monitor the situation. State traffic officers and partner agencies plan to maintain active operations on the road until vehicles can travel freely without disruption.
Appreciating the resilience of those affected by the gridlock, Governor Abiodun added: “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all road users.”
