The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a married woman, Mrs Rukayat Muhammed, in connection with the death of her alleged lover at a guest house in Gwarimpa, Abuja.
The commissioner of police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Saturday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters, Abuja.
Sanusi said the deceased, whose identity was not disclosed, was initially reported missing by his family before his lifeless body was discovered along the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe under the bridge on August 26, 2026.
According to him, the discovery had initially generated reports and speculation linking the death to kidnapping or “one chance” robbery.
However, the police investigation subsequently established that the deceased was the same person whose disappearance had earlier been reported by his family.
The CP said investigators discovered that the deceased’s mobile phone was missing, prompting efforts to track the device and establish his last known communications.
Although the phone was later switched off, investigators were able to identify the last person with whom the deceased had communicated, leading them to Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2.
Sanusi said further investigation revealed that the suspect, a married woman, was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact on her phone under the name “Safiyat.”
He disclosed that the investigation further established that Rukayat and the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House, 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, where they spent some time together.
According to the police commissioner, the suspect told investigators that she discovered that the deceased was no longer breathing and had died.
“Rather than immediately reporting the incident to the Police, the suspect took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the hotel,” Sanusi said.
He explained that several hours later, after the hotel management could not establish contact with the occupants of the room, access was gained into the room, where the deceased’s lifeless body was discovered.
The CP said instead of reporting the discovery to the police, two members of the hotel management, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus removed the body from the room.
He said they subsequently transported the body to the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe under the bridge, where it was dumped by the roadside, apparently in an attempt to distance the hotel and its management from the incident.
Sanusi said the police investigation had now unravelled a significant part of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body, but stressed that the investigation was still ongoing.
He said the exact cause and circumstances of the deceased’s death had yet to be established, adding that further investigative processes were being undertaken to determine the full facts of the case.
“Anyone found to have played a role in the death or subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body will be made to face the law,” the commissioner stated.
He also warned members of the public against concealing information, obstructing investigations or otherwise undermining law enforcement efforts.
The CP said the case demonstrated the Command’s determination to go beyond the surface of incidents and establish the facts through investigation.
