Police Integrity Is On Trial”- Comr. Umukoro Efemena Raises Alarm Over AK-47 Suspect’s Alleged Release

Comr. Umukoro Efemena has raised concerns over the neutrality of the Nigeria Police ahead of the 2027 general election following the arrest of a man allegedly found with an AK-47 rifle during the Peter Obi–Kwankwaso march.

Speaking this morning, Efemena questioned whether the police would handle the matter impartially, alleging that there were efforts by members of the ruling party to secure the release of the suspect.

He said, “The integrity of the Nigeria Police is on trial with the case of the thûg we caught with an AK-47 rifle yesterday. We are going to know whether the police will remain neutral in the 2027 election. I just received an alleged report that the ruling party is doing everything possible to secure the release of the thug we caught red-handed with an AK-47 rifle yesterday during the Peter Obi–Kwankwaso march. I know that if the gûn had been recovered from an NDC member, the police would have issued a statement by now.”

Efemena subsequently called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure that the matter is handled transparently and in accordance with the law.

His comments come amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 election, with questions being raised over the conduct and neutrality of security agencies during political activities.

The allegations about attempts to secure the suspect’s release remain claims made by Efemena and have not been independently established.
