U.S.-based Nigerian rapper Ms Jorji has opened up about the end of her 10-month marriage, revealing that her former husband’s financial struggles contributed to the breakdown of their union.
The rapper spoke about the experience during a recent livestream with former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, where she discussed her expectations about marriage and finances.
Ms Jorji admitted that she was unwilling to remain in the marriage after her husband began facing financial difficulties.
“I am a gold digger. Poverty does not look good on me,” she said.
She explained that although her husband could experience financial challenges, she did not believe she was prepared to go through poverty alongside him.
The rapper also recalled an incident from their court wedding, revealing that she specifically asked for part of the traditional marriage vows to be omitted.
“When we did our court wedding, I made sure the judge skipped the ‘for poorer’ in the marriage vows,” she said.
According to Ms Jorji, she had made her stance on financial hardship clear to her husband before they got married.
“Being poor is not part of our route, and I told him that,” she added.
