“Supporting APC Doesn’t Mean Attacking Obi” – Anambra APC Chieftain Defends His Loyalty To Party

• Responding to a netizen who questioned whether he was working for the APC or supporting Obi, Okoye argued that belonging to a political party does not require him to insult or attack political opponents.

Anambra APC chieftain, Francis Chidozie Okoye, has responded to a netizen who questioned his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress after he defended former Anambra State governor Peter Obi in the ongoing debt controversy.

The exchange followed Okoye’s criticism of Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, over comments concerning debts allegedly left by Obi’s administration.

The Anambra State Government recently released documents which it said showed outstanding loans linked to Obi’s tenure, putting the balance of eight external borrowings at about ₦127.4 billion as of June 30, 2026. Obi has disputed the claims and maintained that he did not leave unpaid debts when he left office in 2014.

In a Facebook exchange captured in the screenshot, a user asked Okoye whether he was working for the APC or supporting Obi.

Responding, Okoye said party membership did not mean he had to attack or insult Obi.

“I must not insult or attack Peter Obi before you know I am working for APC. Have you ever seen Governor Hope Uzodinma insulting Peter Obi?” he said.

He added that he should be able to express his views on affairs in Anambra State without being accused of working for another political interest.

Okoye has previously been identified in reports as an APC chieftain and Convener of the Coalition of South East APC Support Groups.
