In other news… Nigerian singer Timaya has sparked reactions after a statement attributed to him criticised Nigerian politicians over their alleged preference for living abroad with their families.
In the statement circulating on X, the singer said his frequent travels outside Nigeria have allowed him to observe politicians spending time abroad with their families.
He said:
“God take any Politician wey go make Nigerians crai again, I travel abroad everytime and I see them with their families there. Their families don’t stay here, they’re all selfish, even the ones that’re just coming and promising us they’ll be better”
His comments have drawn mixed reactions from social media users, with some agreeing with his criticism while others questioned his own relationship with political events.
Some users specifically referenced Timaya’s performance at the 2023 Renewed Hope Youth Concert in Abuja, an event organised by APC youths ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration. Timaya performed “As E Dey Sweet Us, E dey Pain Dem” at the event. Reports at the time noted that the performance generated speculation about the meaning behind his choice of song.
