VIDEO: NDC Leader Dickson Takes to the River, Showcases Swimming Skills

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has shared a video of himself swimming in River Forcados in his home community, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State.
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, said he returned to the river where he grew up and lived until the age of 20 to enjoy a swim.
The senator shared the video on his X account, explaining that swimming in the river was something he occasionally did, including with his children, who he said had also learnt the skill.
According to him, swimming is not only an enjoyable sporting activity but also an essential life skill, particularly for people living in riverine communities.
“Today, I visited the river by which I grew up till age 20. I went and had a swim in the River Forcados, right here in my community, and it was great!” he wrote.
Dickson added that swimming remained an activity he enjoyed from time to time, noting that he often did it with his children.
“This is what I always do once in a while even with my children, who all know how to swim,” he stated.
“I encourage all young men to learn how to swim. Not only is it a good sport, but it is also an essential life skill, particularly for those of us living around here,” the former governor added.
The video comes days after Dickson hosted the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other leaders of the NDC during a political visit to Bayelsa State.
Obi, alongside Dickson and members of the NDC delegation, visited the former governor’s community, Toru-Orua, where they participated in cultural activities, including an Ijaw traditional war boat regatta.
The visit featured a display of traditional boat-riding skills by local boatmen and traditional warriors, as well as interactions with residents and community leaders.
Dickson used the occasion to reaffirm his support for Obi’s presidential ambition ahead of the January 16, 2027 general election.
The former governor also criticised Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri over his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing him of abandoning the political platform that brought him to power.
Dickson maintained that his disagreement with Diri was based on the political direction of the state rather than a personal dispute, describing the governor as his brother and compatriot.
He also expressed confidence that Obi and the NDC would secure victory in Bayelsa, the Niger Delta and across the country in the 2027 elections.
