The United Kingdom government has published the eligibility criteria for its Youth Mobility Scheme visa, outlining which nations’ residents may apply and the age restrictions for each applicant.
According to the federal government, the initiative is presently open to citizens of four nations.
Citizens of these four nations, aged 18 to 35, are eligible to apply for a visa.
Who qualifies for UK Youth Mobility Visa?
The age rule comes with a specific clarification from the UK government. An applicant must be 18 years of age or older when their visa becomes active and 35 years old or younger at the time of application.
Below are the countries whose citizens must meet such criteria:
- Canada
- New Zealand
- Australia
- South Korea
Importantly, individuals can apply before they turn 18, as long as the visa starts on or after their 18th birthday.
Similarly, an applicant who is already over 35 when the visa begins is still eligible, as long as they were 35 or younger when they submitted the application.
African countries excluded in the UK Youth Mobility Visa
The released list excludes any African countries from the nationalities currently eligible for the Youth Mobility visa.
This implies that nationals of Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and other African countries cannot apply through this route and must look into other UK visa options if they want to stay and work in the UK temporarily.
The Youth Mobility Scheme is a points-based program that allows young people from qualified nations to live, work, and study in the UK for up to two years. It does not require a work offer before arrival, making it a more flexible alternative for individuals who qualify.
