Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has weighed in on the state of democracy in Nigeria, expressing concerns over whether the country is truly practising the ideals of a democratic society.
The singer made the remarks while appearing on the One54 Podcast, which was published on YouTube on September 10, 2026.
Adekunle Gold’s comments came while discussing Davido’s decision to appeal to United States President Donald Trump over concerns surrounding Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to him, Davido’s decision to contact Trump was understandable because Nigeria, in his view, is yet to fully practise genuine democracy.
“I think Davido sent that message to Donald Trump because I don’t think we’re truly practicing democracy. We aren’t doing what a democratic society should do, I just hope this administration does better than the previous one,” Adekunle Gold said.
His remarks referred to Davido’s social media post of August 11, 2026, in which the singer tagged Trump and called on the United States and the international community to closely monitor the Osun State governorship election.
