“We Haven’t Seen Anything Yet”- Lady Raises Alarm Over Chinese Businesses Taking Over Nigeria

  • A Nigerian lady has expressed concerns about the increasing presence of Chinese businesses in Nigeria.
  • She warns that the full impact of this development may not yet be realized.
  • Chinese businesses are reportedly expanding and establishing warehouses in various locations across Nigeria.

A Nigerian lady has raised concerns over the growing presence of Chinese businesses in Nigeria, warning that the country may not have seen the full impact of the development.

The lady claimed that Chinese businesses are increasingly expanding across the country, with warehouses reportedly located in different parts of Nigeria.

She also alleged that China has started reducing the number of visas issued to Nigerians, noting that this could affect Nigerians who depend on buying and selling for their livelihoods.

According to her, many Nigerians rely on the importation of goods from China to sustain their businesses.

“An Average Nigerian Is Surviving Through Buying And Selling, And That Has Been Possible Because Of Importation From China,” she said.

The lady explained that the traditional business chain involved suppliers in China selling to Nigerian wholesalers and importers, who then supplied retailers before the products eventually reached consumers.

“The Business Chain Used To Be: Supplier (China) → Wholesalers/Importers → Retailers → End Users. Now, That Chain Is Being Shattered. It’s Moving From The Supplier Straight To The End User.”

She further expressed concern that the changing structure could have implications for Nigerian traders and other businesses that depend on the existing importation and distribution system.

“We Haven’t Seen Anything Yet. The Chinese Are Taking Over Businesses In Nigeria. Their Warehouses Are All Over The Country, And China Has Started Reducing The Number Of Visas They Give To Nigerians,” she added.

@Edcrib:”In the end China will be the ones to suffe once we place a trade ban on them and switch to better trade partners like Korea, Taiwan, Thailand etc, their ego clear”

@Casmir Ajems:”Igbos actively publicized Chinese businesses rather than competing intelligently. Not only did they reveal the locations, they even filmed the actual shops. Instead of employing smarter tactics, like stationing people at market entrances to steer customers exclusively toward Nigerian stores, or sharply undercutting prices to make Chinese shops harder to discover, they handed the competition an advantage. I used to believe Nigerians were especially cunning when it came to “wayo,” but this proved me wrong.”
